The Digital Dilemma: The Role of Technology in School-Based Mental Health

This presentation will explore the root causes of the mental health crisis being experienced by our nation’s youth and how technology presents new opportunities for re-imagining a system of care that is responsive to the needs of all students. Information on how to navigate the digital mental health landscape will be discussed as well as promising new approaches, digital health tools and resources that can be used to support mental health professionals in their work with youth and families. Implications for research, policy, practice will be highlighted.

Hope for the Future of School Mental Health: Policy Update and Discussion

This plenary presentation offers a landscape of national and state-specific growth in school mental health, with an optimistic view of the future state of the field. Successful state legislative efforts to advance school mental health across the nation will be detailed, along with guidance on how attendees can learn from and leverage these legislative wins in their own states and local communities. Data and messaging will be provided highlighting the broad support among youth, families, and educators for integrating mental health supports and services in schools. Bill Smith will be joined by Senator Dafna Michaelson Jenet, D-CO, and Speaker of the House Valerie Longhurst, D-DE.

The Advancing School Mental Health Conference offers a library of on-demand sessions through June 3, 2024! Conference attendees received an email on December 12, 2023, with information on accessing this library. Individuals who registered for the on-demand library received access information upon registration.  Continuing education credits are not provided for the on-demand library, but a certificate of attendance is available upon request. All presenters must confirm their acceptance through the link provided in their acceptance email. In August, all confirmed presenters for live conference, symposia, and intensive training sessions will receive their presentation date/time, along with a toolkit to support preparations.

• All confirmed presenters will receive a link to upload their materials.
  • Pre-recorded on-demand session mp4 files are due November 1, 2023.
  • Live presentation materials are due November 15, 2023.
• Modify and include Disclosure Slide Templates and Conference Evaluations Slide in your presentation.

Cancellations, Substitutions, and Refunds
Substitutions will be accepted. Registration cancellations must be submitted by September 29, 2023. No verbal requests will be excepted. All requests must be made via email BEFORE September 29, 2023. Follow the instructions below for registration cancellations or substitutions.

• Return to the registration confirmation email if you wish to substitute your registration. Click the link provided to modify your registration. Enter your email address and the confirmation number to access your registration. You may also contact Christina Walker at cnwalker@som.umaryland.edu.
• If you wish to cancel your registration and receive a refund, you must contact Christina Walker at cnwalker@som.umaryland.edu BEFORE September 29, 2023. A $95 administrative fee will be applied to all refunds. Allow four weeks for refunds to be processed.
• No cancellations will be accepted after September 29, 2023, for medical-, personal-, or work-related reasons.

Group Discounts
For groups with 10 or more people, a $10 discount per person is available. Registrations and payment for the entire group must be received at the same time to be eligible for this discount. Contact Christina Walker with any questions about group discounts at cnwalker@som.umaryland.edu.
